What is a mouse DPI analyzer?
A mouse DPI analyzer estimates how many pointer counts your mouse reports over a known physical distance. It is useful for checking a configured DPI setting, but the result is affected by the surface, the way you move, and the browser's input implementation.
How does this online DPI analyzer estimate mouse DPI without installing software?
The tool uses the browser's Pointer Lock API to read relative movement while you hold the measurement area. It combines the reported movement with your physical distance using DPI = total counts ÷ distance in inches. This avoids screen-edge limits, but it does not bypass every operating-system or browser input transformation.
Why can my measured DPI differ from the number on the box?
Configured DPI is a nominal setting. A reading can differ because of physical distance error, hand angle, surface and skate conditions, operating-system settings, or browser input handling. Repeat the test consistently, then read the DPI deviation guide for the formula and limits.
Can I test mouse DPI on a phone, touchscreen, or trackpad?
No. Touchscreens and trackpads do not provide a meaningful physical mouse-distance test. Use a physical mouse, a ruler, and a desktop browser that supports Pointer Lock. If Pointer Lock is blocked, the tool will show a retry message.
How many times should I run the mouse DPI test?
Run at least three passes with the same distance, surface, and direction. Small differences are expected from the start position, stop position, and movement path. Use the median result instead of choosing the highest reading.
Does monitor resolution change a mouse DPI measurement?
Monitor resolution is not an input in the DPI formula, which divides browser-reported movement by physical distance in inches. Browser and operating-system input handling can still affect the reported movement, so compare repeated runs rather than relying on one result.
